Prof. Dr. habil. Fathi Zereini studied
mineralogy at the J.W. Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main,
Germany. He received his Ph.D. in the fields of petrography and
geochemistry of ore deposits. He has been lecturing and
conducting research at the Institute of Mineralogy, J.W. Goethe
University since 1987, where he was in charge of the chemistry
lab from 1990 to 1995. He successfully completed his
Habilitation in 1997, which dealt with the geochemistry and
analysis of platinum group elements (PGE). His main research
areas are environmental mineralogy, geochemistry and the
analysis of noble metals. Fathi Zereini also teaches topics
related to Environmental Science at the Institute Atmosphere and
Environment, J.W. Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
He has been editor of a number of well-known scientific
publications such as the books “Anthropogenic Platinum Group
Element Emissions – Their Impact on Man and Environment”, “Water
in the Middle East and in North Africa: Resources, Protection
and Management” and Palladium Emissions in the Environment –
Analytical Methods. Environmental Assessment and Health Effects”
which have been published by Springer.
